The Birmingham and Midland Institute is hosting an exhibition of new paintings by Colin Monk until 23 June 2011. The paintings and some prints are on sale.

The BMI is located in central Birmingham, very close to the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery.

LIFE PAST: A series of sixteen paintings by Colin Monk at Worcester Cathedral.

The work centres on the theme of memories: how a presence impacts on a building, leaving behind reverberations that are felt and seen by those that continue to inhabit the place. I used old photographs both for inspiration and in re-photographed form, as a device to portray the encapsulated memories.

Colin will be at the Cathedral on Saturday 13th November 11am – 3.30pm to answer questions about the exhbiition.

Life Past exhibition

This exhibition is at St Martin’s in the Bull Ring (the church right in Birmingham’s main shopping centre, 5 minutes walk from New Street station), from October 25th to November 25th.

If you are interested in buying any of the images here but cannot get to the exhibition, please contact the artist directly to arrange a viewing or a sale. Prices range from £350 to £450.

These poignant images overlay painting with photography, reflecting how different phases of our lives can be present in any moment in layers of memory and recollection.

Signed, framed, limited edition prints are also available at £40 each, measuring 20cm x 15cm. P&P excluded.
